Event information

Would you like to better understand what mediation involves and how to prepare so you can get the most out of it?

In this Victorian Law Week webinar, Senior Associate Danie Mellas from Nicholes Family Lawyers will present an overview of preparing for mediation in the family law context. The session explains what mediation is, how it works, and how it differs from going to court. It will also outline the role of an independent mediator and how family dispute resolution fits within the broader family law system.

The presentation is presented by Danie Mella, Senior Associate from Nicholes Family Lawyers. It will discuss when mediation is appropriate and when it may not be suitable, including situations involving family violence, power imbalances, or child safety concerns. Drawing on practical examples, the session will cover different types of mediation, what to expect on the day, and how people can prepare in advance.

Preparation topics will include understanding the legal framework, gathering relevant documents, clarifying positions, considering safety and support needs, and thinking about realistic outcomes if the matter were to proceed to court.

By the end of the webinar, attendees will have a clearer understanding of how mediation works in practice, possible warning signs, and the steps they can take beforehand to make informed decisions about their family’s future.
