Event information

Communities affected by disasters often need ongoing support to navigate insurance claims as they rebuild homes, businesses, and community infrastructure. Understanding how insurance claims work and what to do when problems arise can be challenging during an already stressful time.

This online session is designed to support people and small business owners impacted by the January 2026 fires across Victoria. The 1.5‑hour presentation will explain how the insurance claims process works, what to expect at different stages, and what steps to take if you’re unsure or experiencing difficulties with an insurer. The session will be delivered online to ensure accessibility for regional communities and will include opportunities for questions via a moderated online chat.

Presenters include Kellie Davis, Disaster Recovery Lead at Financial Counselling Victoria, and Bronwyn Lay from Disaster Legal Help Victoria. Together, they will provide practical guidance, outline common issues, and explain pathways to free legal advice and financial counselling.

This session provides general information only and will not offer advice on individual claims. Participants should leave feeling more informed, confident, and aware of where to access further support.
