Event information
Juries play a central role in Victoria’s justice system. They are the deciders of fact, represent the voice of the community, and support transparency in the justice process. Jury service is both a privilege and a responsibility shared by Australian citizens.
Juries Victoria, together with the County Court of Victoria, invite you to experience the law in action through an immersive and interactive session. Participants will be summoned by the Juries Commissioner to attend the Melbourne jury pool room and take part in a mock jury selection, overseen by a judge of the County Court.
After arriving at the Court, clearing security, checking in for jury service, and attending a jury pool orientation, a jury panel will be randomly selected for a mock empanelment and trial. A judge and judge’s associate will conduct the mock empanelment before the jury of twelve is instructed on the facts of a case for deliberation and verdict.
Participants not selected as jurors will observe the process, ask questions of the presiding judge, and consider whether they reach the same conclusion. The session will conclude with a Q&A involving the judge, associate, and Juries Commissioner.
Registration is required. Spaces are limited to the first 100 registrations.
