Event information
There is widespread confusion among clients, families, legal and health practitioners, and aged care providers about the different types of substitute decision makers and their legal roles under Victorian law. These knowledge gaps risk leaving vulnerable people unsupported and can compromise sound decision‑making and future planning.
Presented by the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV), this session provides clear and practical education on substitute decision‑making arrangements in Victoria, including recent changes introduced by the Reforming the Powers of Substitute Decision Makers Act (RPSDM Act).
By attending this session, participants will:
- Understand the different types of substitute decision makers under Victorian law
- Identify the key legislation, forms, and requirements for appointing substitute decision makers
- Learn how decision‑making hierarchies operate in different contexts
- Clarify common areas of confusion and avoid frequent mistakes in practice
The session will also highlight where to find further information and support.
This session is open to the Victorian community, particularly older people, family members and carers, and those working in health and aged care settings.
