Standing up for your rights

Your rights are protected in many different ways and support is available to help you understand your rights and what you can do when you think they’ve been ignored.

Work entitlements

The law offers protection by setting minimum standards for your workplace rights and entitlements. If you believe that your employer is not meeting these standards, you have the right to seek advice and support.

Legal support can help you understand your situation, and if necessary take action to assert your employment rights and entitlements.

There are a range of organisations available to help you understand your work entitlements:

Manage fines and infringements

If you are struggling to pay a fine or believe that it has been issued unfairly, legal resources are available to provide guidance and support.

There are a number of agencies which can help you understand the procedures in dealing with fines and infringements, including options for payment plans, reviews, and appeals.

Find support to address discrimination

Do you believe you’ve been discriminated against? The Victorian Equal Opportunity Act prohibits discrimination based on various attributes, such as age, sex, race, and disability, in areas like employment, education, and provision of goods and services.

Legal resources can provide information, advice, and assistance in addressing discrimination.

This may include helping you understand your rights under the law, assisting with making complaints, support in navigating the processes in resolving discrimination issues, or taking legal action.
