What’s in a sentence?

Two portraits of Judges in their robes.
How does a judge sentence an accused in a criminal proceeding? How do they determine whether the punishment fits the crime? Stream the County Court of Victoria’s ‘What’s in a Sentence’!

In what has become the County Court most-popular Victorian Law Week session, the Chief Judge Kidd and Deputy Chief Judge M Sexton discuss sentencing by drawing on their unique perspectives and experiences.

This session is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the sentencing process from those who know it best, including its challenges, balancing various factors, taking into account the individual circumstances of those involved in a matter, and what happens when a judge gets it wrong.

This pre-recorded session was first held as part of Victoria Law Week 2022.
